Alex's Story

Alex is a little boy that lives in the gypsy village of Cherichu. His mother desperately wanted to keep him, but knew she wouldn't be able to afford it. During that time two of the Bruski's daughters, Paige and Emma, were working at an abandoned baby hospital. Paige fell in love with Alex and would sneak him extra strength baby formula because he was much smaller than the rest of the babies. Paige took care of Alex almost every day all the way until he was about eighteen months old. Then one day Paige came home crying because Alex had just vanished. After talking with the social worker they found out that his mother had came and taken him back to her home in Cherichu. Armed with nothing more than a picture and a vague recollection of a road map (they didn't have enough money to buy the real thing) they set out in search of their beloved Alex. After several hours of driving and praying they found themselves in a small village in the middle of a cornfield.

After seeing the hut they were living in, the Bruskis immediately found a sponsor and started taking Alex's family food, baby formula, diapers, and other things they needed. They began taking mission trips there to see Alex and help build his family a new home. A couple summers ago a group from my home church of Grace asked why none of the other families had been sponsored. Before they left all fourteen families in the village of Cherichu had a sponsor. This past summer we built another house there for a younger family AND nearly the whole village accepted Christ as saviour. This upcoming summer we are hoping to begin construction on a church building to meet in during the much colder winter months. God has used one little boy to reach an entire village and I can't wait to see what He'll do next as Alex grows older.
